Rooted in the Midwest, Wisconsin-based artist Carmen Duran grew up in a large, creative family surrounded by music, craft, and storytelling. Her mother taught her to sew, her grandmother to quilt, and her great-grandfather was the town photographer. These early experiences sparked a lifelong love of color, texture, and visual expression.
Though she pursued art throughout school, life took her in another direction for many years. A renewed interest in photography eventually led to a solo exhibition—an experience that reignited her passion for painting. She has been creating daily ever since.
Her first solo painting exhibition was in 2017, and her work has since been featured in numerous galleries and acquired by collectors across the country. Her bold brushwork, vivid color palettes, and richly textured surfaces are often inspired by wildflowers and the natural beauty of the Midwest. Whether abstract or representational, each piece tells a personal story and invites an emotional response.
