This old apple tree grows alongside a small white, rural church. The tree produces spotty small apples that fall upon the nearby gravestones. For most of the week, the church sits quiet and idle, until Sunday services. The simple nature of the clapboard building on the corner of this small, tourist town is replicated in other small towns throughout the Midwest. The contemplative quietude contrasts with the bustling of the tourists nearby. Humans seek both bustle and quiet respite to quell our inherent restlessness. Yet an apple tree exists silently merely taking in the seasons.
