Luiz Carlos Oliveira is a Brazilian visual artist and graffiti writer with over 25 years of experience in urban art. He is the creator of the É o Bicho Arte project and an active figure in Rio de Janeiro’s cultural scene, where he is a permanent artist at the iconic Feira Hippie in Ipanema. His work is known for its vibrant and distinctive style, using graffiti as a powerful form of visual expression and public engagement.
Throughout his career, Luiz Carlos has contributed to social and educational initiatives, teaching graffiti workshops through programs run by the Rio de Janeiro city government and, in 2008, as an instructor for the NGO Vida Real in the Maré community. His involvement in educational efforts reflects his commitment to democratizing art and promoting urban culture.
In 2013, he took part in a large-scale collective intervention during World Youth Day in Rio, painting murals inspired by human values. His artistic reach extends internationally, with works and projects completed in the United States, France, Germany, and England.
A curious fact about Luiz Carlos is that he never shows his face—he always wears a gorilla mask when appearing in public. This choice reflects his desire for the focus to remain on his art, not his identity, reinforcing his belief that the message and impact of the artwork should always come first.
Luiz Carlos continues to create in public spaces, using graffiti as an accessible and dynamic language that speaks to contemporary life, identity, and community.
